Does it ever fail with ‘incorrect password’ if you type the password by hand or if you use copy and paste?

Yes. I used auto-fill initially, but when it failed, I typed by hand as well. I can't really post the link to the site here, because it isn't meant to be a public site at this point (eventually maybe, but not yet). But I looked at the linked cookie settings, and it is correct.

But...do cookies play a role here? That would tie logging in to a specific browser, but people can access the forums from multiple devices/browsers. For example, I access from my desktop computer running Linux, as well as my Android OS phone.

When I enter a password to log in, the check/confirmation would need to be done at the server side, no?

FWIW - if it was a bug you’d find many cases exactly the same as yours.

This is my assumption as well. Bugs happen, but since I wasn't finding the issue reported, I'm leaning towards there being something else at play.
